Ujjwal Nikam

Ujjwal Nikam (born March 30, 1953) is the Special Public Prosecutor for the Mumbai terror attacks that occurred in November 2008 (the Ajmal Kasab Case). He has worked as a Special Public Prosecutor on various high profile cases including the Bombay blasts case of 1993, the Gulshan Kumar murder case, the Pramod Mahajan murder trial, the Gateway of India blasts case of 2003, the Kherlanji massacre Dalit murder case and the Nadeem extradition case which was fought in London.

Early life

Shri.Ujjwal Nikam was born in Jalgaon to Barrister Deoraoji Nikam. His father was a Judge and a Lawyer by profession and mother is a housewife. Shri.Nikam completed his Bachelors in Science(First Class) and received his law degree(First Class) from the K.C.E Society's S.S.Maniyar Law college of Jalgaon. He served as District Government Prosecutor of Jalgaon.

Career

Shri.Nikam was appointed as special public prosecutor in the 1993 Mumbai bomb-blast case in 1994. After that he handled various high profile cases, such as:

In spite of hectic schedule and heavy pressures, his commitment towards other aspects of society are never ignored. He is socially very active and also played some key roles in some organisations.

Awards and recognition

Shri Nikam comes from a mofusal area like Jalgaon but today he is known personality in the state, country and worldwide. His Journey to success was not easy and there were numerous incidences of threats to his life. His unconquerable fight against injustice was appreciated from all the corners of the country and society has given him back in every way it can.

Ex-President of India Dr. Abdul Kalam has conferred Doctorate degree on him at D.Y. Patil University, Pune in year 2010.
